Elements of your Book
Topic: What is the nature of humans?

- -Introductory Movie (made by you)
- -Table of Contents
- -Theories-- 3 positions explained. Include sources. This requires that you look up the genesis of these theories. Choose good sources -- ones that end in .edu are usually valid. Find out where these ideas came from. You will write 3 separate paragraphs detailing what you have found.
- -Summaries of the short texts explored -- 5 short texts . Write one paragraph for each piece.
- -Your assessment of the 5 short texts (a conclusion -- one paragraph for each text). Try to draw together the position of the writer and your thoughts.
- -Summary of Freedom Writers and a statement of the theme inherent in the film. (two paragraphs). Find out what has happened to the characters in the film. Add that information.
- -Avatar: 2 charts -- #1: Allegory explained. #2: Stages of the Hero -- cycle aligned with Avatar
- -Presentation of 3 poems you have located -- include the text of the poem, a short summary and an assessment of the theme and its relevance to the question. This calls for two paragraphs per poem. Each paragraph should be 4-6 sentences.
- -Art Gallery - choose 6 pieces of art (painting or sculpture) that explore the nature of humans. Include a quotation that explains the position.
- Find someone to interview that could be considered to be an expert in the field of human nature. Conduct an interview (video) in which you explore the essential questions.
- -3 Real World examples that explore the nature of humans. Include a link to the articles and your assessment of the articles. Connect the articles to the essential question. Select the articles from the recent past. (within 5 years)
- -Photo essay that conveys your position on human nature. Start with a thesis statement that clearly expresses your viewpoint. In disagreement? One for each position.
- -Essential Questions answered (preparation for the Socratic Seminar)
- -a demonstration of your learning -- created by you.

Exporting Your Book
Use the Ipad Mini to export your book. Follow the following instructions.
iBooks Author: You are not submitting your book online to the iBookstore. You are creating a book for me!
Process:
Create a PDF file for viewing only onscreen (not as a printout): Choose Share > Export, and click PDF. Select image quality and security options, click Next, type a name and choose a location for the file, and click Export.
Create a PDF file that will be printed: Choose File > Print, and choose Save as PDF from the PDF pop-up menu. In the Save window, type a name, choose a location for the file, and click Save.

Process:
- With the book open, choose Share > Export, and click iBooks.
- Choose Standard Book for iBooks from the Export As pop-up menu.
If you want, type a book version number in the Version Number field.
- Click Next.
- Type a name for the book, choose a place to save it, and click Export.
- If the book was sent in Mail, tap the file on your iPad.
- On a computer, drag the book file (with the extension .ibooks) to the iTunes window and sync the book to your iPad. For more information, see iTunes Help.
